PRINTING FAQ

HOW DO I GET STARTED?
First of all, you will need an idea/design that you want to be screen printed. This design will need to be turned into a yardage design so it can be repeated down the length of your fabric as one continuous print. There are two options of how to make a repeat design. We can do all the work for you, in which our design team can transform your idea into a design ready for yardage printing. Or you can set up your own artwork, in which there are a few specifications you need to consider for hand screen printing. Here is a check list to help you get started.

  • Artwork to be produced in Illustrator or Photoshop
  • Maximum size of repeat design is 70 x 145 cm to fit screen size
  • Must be in repeat for hand printing
  • Each colour of the design needs to be separated into layers with registration marks
  • All designs, no matter what colour you want to print will need to be black
  • If the design is more than one colour, each print colour separation is to be saved as its own file and in black
  • Saved files need to be as a pdf
  • Send through artwork via email or dropbox

IS THERE A FABRIC MINIMUM?
No, we charge in meterage increments, so you can print as little or as much as you like.

WHAT FABRIC CAN I PRINT ON?
We can print on many different type of fabrics with water based inks. It would be preferred that the base is PFP (Prepared For Print). Factors to consider would be the design detail and what you would like to achieve as well as fabric texture and print coverage.

DO I NEED TO ALLOW FOR EXTRA FABRIC?
Yes, depending on fabric type and print coverage will determine how much allowance you need to make. As a general rule, please allow 10% wastage for all orders under 50 metres and 5% wastage for over 50metres. This will account for print faults, any shrinkage and wastage. Our print tables are 22 metres long, therefore fabrics will be cut at approx. 20 metre intervals.
